Who We Are

The mission of JROTC is to motivate young people to become better citizens.

The JROTC program motivates cadets to be all they can be by teaching useful self-discipline, self-confidence, and leadership skills through a student led class which encourages cadets to take leadership roles both inside and outside of school.

The JROTC program is not a program designed to push teens to enlist in the military and there is no military obligation through joining the program. However, joining JROTC opens up many opportunities in the military such as advanced promotion upon initial enlistment in the military.

Our History

The Ironhawks Battalion was founded in 1996 by Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Spicer who taught as the Senior Army Instructor at Hayfield Secondary School until 2010. The current SAI at Hayfield is LTC (R) Ruhl.

The Ironhawks Battalion is an Honor Unit with Distinction, which is represented by a yellow star which is worn on the cadets’ uniform. This award was earned for the demonstration of excellence in all areas of the cadet program.
